Collecting Preserving Sharing Showcasing History

In the heart of Sibley, Iowa, we collect, preserve, and interpret the artifacts that define our community. Join enthusiastic locals, curious researchers, and families in safeguarding our shared heritage for generations to come.

Our Story — A Legacy Built by Locals, For Locals

McCallum Museum began in 1941...

…when Mrs. Bertha Heetland founded what would become Osceola County’s premier history repository. In 1957 the museum was built to protect the historic H.K. Rogers House — one of the first wooden homes in the county — creating a permanent home for our growing collection.

Today, under a team of enthusiastic volunteers and dedicated board members, we continue our mission:

To collect, preserve, store, and exhibit artifacts that relate to Sibley and Osceola County.

McCallum Museum and Brunson Heritage House in Sibley Central Park, Iowa – preserving Osceola County history since 1957

The Brunson Heritage House wing (added 1991) offers a fully furnished 19th-century home. We personalize every story — carefully labelling and interpreting each piece so visitors don’t just see history, they feel connected to it. Our museum is clean, approachable, and filled with the warm enthusiasm of people who truly love this place.

Our Vision We envision a welcoming space where heritage is celebrated and shared, fostering a deep sense of belonging for everyone who walks through our doors — from lifelong residents researching their roots to first-time visitors discovering Sibley’s story.

Step Inside — Treasures That Tell Sibley’s Story

From Civil War relics to Victorian finery, every artifact in our collection has a story waiting to be discovered.

Why Your Support Is Needed Right Now

Honoring Our Heritage

Like many small-town museums, McCallum Museum faces real challenges. Rising preservation costs, limited budgets, and the constant risk of irreplaceable artifacts deteriorating or leaving the area mean we can’t do this alone.

Without community support we risk losing:

  • Unique pieces of Osceola County history that tell the story of our pioneer families, local businesses, and early settlement
  • A welcoming space where everyone can explore and learn

The time to act is now. Every gift matters. They keep our doors open.
